This summer, we're opening a new wave of Portals in Boston, London, Seoul, Stanford and New York City with partners including the United Nations, the Aspen Ideas Festival, and Google! This post is just to put all of the updates in one place! So here goes:
1. Portal at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC (#UNPortal)
On June 20, our Portal returns to the United Nations in honor of World Refugee Day. We will be connecting to Za'atari, home to thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan. The UNPortal was make possible by Bridges of Understanding, UNICEF and the UN Millennium Campaign.
2. Portal Collaboration with Google for Entrepreneurs and the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit at Stanford University (#GooglePortal)
Google for Entrepreneurs is bringing Portals to the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Silicon Valley (June 22-24) and connecting attendees to entrepreneurship hubs around the world in London, Mexico City, and Seoul. The Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) is focused on deepening ties between business leaders, foundations, and entrepreneur communities from around the world. Introduced in 2009, President Obama and The White House host this annual event filled with speakers and workshops for 1,500 entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers. 3. Pop-up Portal at the Aspen Ideas Festival (#AspenIdeasPortal)
At the tail end of the month, we'll have a Portal at the Aspen Ideas Festival from June 28-30 that will connect to Isfahan, Iran; Kigali, Rwanda, and Milwaukee, US. The Aspen Ideas Festival is the nation's premier, public gathering place for leaders from around the globe and across many disciplines to engage in deep and inquisitive discussion of the ideas and issues that both shape our lives and challenge our times. Last Month in Brief
Portals Dialogues on Criminal Justice in the US are going strong. The Newark Portal and Milwaukee Portal have been setting up an incredible array of events! If you are in one of those cities, definitely check out their event this Friday: 500 Fathers United!
We set up a Portal at re:publica in Berlin, where Shared_Studios Founder Amar Chopra Bakshi gave a keynote with Omid Habibi, our first HeratPortal curator! We are moving this BerlinPortal to Utzdorf, where it will be based in a home for recent migrants.
We set up a pop-up Portal with the Alliance for Peacebuilding in Washington D.C and connected the UNICEF annual conference in New York to the Erbil Portal in the Harsham Camp for internally displaced people. We concluded a two week run at Stanford University University and the Portal made it's first appearance in Boston for the annual On Cue Event hosted by Cue Ball!
