Imagination Celebration is hosting a Colorado Springs_Portal on the grounds of the The Citadel mall at the north entrance by the Food Court.  Colorado Springs is home to an iconic mountain, Pikes Peak; the Olympic Training Center: US Olympic Committee and many international nonprofit organizations. 

Imagination Celebration is a nonprofit connecting people of all ages to the brain-stimulating, life-enhancing, community-building power of creativity by inspiring artistic and intellectual curiosity; instigating community collaborations; and promoting life-long experiential learning to help us thrive in a changing world.   This pop-up public arts installation connects people of all walks of life around the globe - taking us to places that we may never travel to, other than through this Portal.  

One Imagination Celebration program, the What IF…Festival,  celebrates lifelong learning and engages the community with the innovation, creativity, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the Pikes Peak region. The What IF… Festival, is a silo-busting, bridge-building, event fostering intellectual vitality by welcoming participants to creatively engage with businesses, nonprofits, artists, scientists, engineers, performers, athletes, educators, ranchers/farmers, architects, tinkerers, visionaries and students of all ages.

Grand Park is located in downtown Los Angeles between The Music Center and City Hall. The park is a dynamic, inclusive environment for community events, cultural experiences, festivals, holiday celebrations and many other activities that engage and attract visitors from all communities in Los Angeles County. Park visitors enjoy original programming, Music Center programming, outdoor activities, interactive events, entertainment and many other activities that benefit from the park’s multi-use lawns, stages and spaces. The Grand Park Portal brings an immersive space – a gold shipping container with screens and speakers – to connect Angelenos to faces and places that are curious about L.A. life.  Exchange thoughts, ideas, recommendations for music, recipes, and anything in between in this two-week activation APR 10 – APR 23.

The CU Boulder portal installation is hosted by the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) and BoulderTalks, a CMCI center that fosters community and knowledge through democratic engagement. 

Located on the brick plaza between the Gold Biosciences building and Folsom Stadium on Colorado Avenue, the portal will connect to sites in Herat, Afghanistan; El Progreso, Honduras; Erbil, Iraq; Mexico City, Mexico and other locations.

Imagine Group V girls laughing and writing stories with young Iraqis living in a displaced persons’ camp and longing for contact with the outside world. Picture an Upper School English class meeting with Honduran high school students to discuss the global reach of hip-hop music. Envision GA dancers collaborating with peers in Afghanistan, or Spanish classes speaking in the target language with children in Mexico. These were the possibilities created by the GA_Portal, a gold shipping container housing immersive audio-visual technology that connects to a global network.

St. Edward’s is a dynamic Catholic, liberal arts university in Austin. We brought a Portal Container to their campus for the Fall 2016 semester. They put it to dynamic use, connecting it to our global network for classes, performances, and more.

Founded in 2011, the annual DC Palestinian Film and Arts Festival (DCPFAF) is a 501c3 nonprofit, volunteer-run enterprise that showcases the work of Palestinian filmmakers and artists around the world to audiences in the Washington DC metro area. 

United Nations General Assembly

For the 2015 UN General Assembly, the 2016 UN General Assembly, and through the summer of 2016, Portal Screens and Portal Containers connected United Nations diplomats and visitors to Portal locations around the world from an IDP camp in Erbil, Iraq to a public square in Mexico City, Mexico.

We’ve had a momentous summer! Because of all of you, we have built a Portals network across twenty countries, connected more than 20,000 people in intimate dialogues, and thousands more in artist collaborations, rap battles, opera ballades, slumber parties, brainstormings, and quiet meditations across distance. That distance takes us from Afghanistan to Mexico and Rwanda to Iraq.

In June 2016, Google for Entrepreneurs brought Portals to the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Silicon Valley and connected attendees at the conference to entrepreneurship hubs around the world in London, Mexico City, and Seoul. Individuals entered a Portal and connected with policy makers, entrepreneurs, and innovators at distant locations, as if in the same room.

Aspen Ideas Festival 2016

The Aspen Ideas Festival is the nation's premier, public gathering place for leaders from around the globe and across many disciplines to engage in deep and inquisitive discussion of the ideas and issues that both shape our lives and challenge our times. Some 350 presenters, 200 sessions, and 3,000 attendees comprise the annual Festival, launched in 2005, on the Aspen Institute's campus in Aspen, Colorado. Working with the Aspen Institute Arts Program and its director, Damian Woetzel, we set up a Portal Tent at the 2016 festival and connected attendees to sites in Kigali, Herat, and Milwaukee for discussions on international security, criminal justice, and art.

Our Portal at On Cue connected leading minds around the world. By realizing human potential, things become faster, better, or just more beautiful and so the world gets a little bit better. On Cue seeks great people with bold ideas that dare to create new standards. The event was a gathering of extraordinary leaders and thinkers who came together for one single day of connectivity and inspiration.

Working with partners across Vanderbilt University, including their art museum and undergraduate dean, we set up a Portal at the center of campus for one month in 2015. Students across Vanderbilt engaged students in Mexico City through Portals for conversations, artist collaborations, language classes and more.

Yale University Art Gallery

For two weeks in late February and early March 2015, a Portal connected the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut, to the Sazmanab Center for Contemporary Art in Tehran, Iran. The mission of the Yale University Art Gallery is to encourage appreciation and understanding of art and its role in society through direct engagement with original works of art. The Gallery stimulates active learning about art and the creative process through research, teaching, and dialogue among communities of Yale students, faculty, artists, scholars, alumni, and the wider public. The Gallery organizes exhibitions and educational programs to offer enjoyment and encourage inquiry, while building and maintaining its collections in trust for future generations.
