The Starbucks DC_Portal, June 19

Address: 237 Pennsylvania Ave SE, Washington, DC 20003

Join us in conversation as we connect live with refugee and displaced communities in Lesbos, Greece; Erbil, Iraq; and Amman, Jordan in honor of World Refugee Day.

Portals are immersive audiovisual spaces that connect communities around the world in live, full-body video communication. Step into one and meet someone in an identical space somewhere else on earth, and speak as if standing in the same room.

On June 19, the Starbucks DC Portal will connect to Lesbos, Greece to explore the theme How can education unlock opportunity?

Lesbos, Greece: How can education unlock opportunity?

Starbucks’ commitment to providing educational opportunities for its partners is part of a global movement of educational opportunities for all. In Lesbos, organizations are working to provide pathways to formal and information education. Here, engage with educators and mediamakers at ReFOCUS Media Labs, an organization dedicated to equipping refugees with media creation skills and provide a platform to showcase original work. Participants in D.C. will chat with students and media makers living in the Moria refugee camp on how they are using new media to share their stories.
