AN ELEVATED FORM OF CONNECTION

Portals connect people across the globe, as intimately as if in the same room together.

From global summits to refugee camps, we curate experiences that connect people across distance and difference.

WHO WE’VE CONNECTED

  • BRAND ACTIVATION

To remind their users of the people behind the avatars they chatted with everyday and to reconfirm Twitter’s commitment to healthy dialogue, we created #TweetUps.

In 2019, we set up 40 Portals in iconic worldwide sites and over 10 days, we connected 20,000 people.

#Tweetups became the most successful consumer-facing campaign in Twitter’s history.

  • In celebration of Detroit’s Month of Design, we partnered with Bedrock Detroit to bring the world to the Monroe Street Midway.

Through a Portal designed by local artists, thousands of Detroiters connected with global Portal communities to discuss the role of design in everyday life and how holiday traditions can shape global culture.

It included performances, conversations, and DJ dance party from Mexico City with over 750 Detroiters.

  • In partnership with our long-standing collaborator, Doha Debates, we brought Portals to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to enhance FIFA’s “Football Unites the World” campaign.

Through a custom Portal in the Fan Zone, we brought together fans, players and other important global figures to discuss the power of football in shaping our society.

Thousands at the World Cup engaged with football fans in 25 Portals to turn the World Cup into a truly global event.

  • In celebration of the Smithsonian National Museum of Asian Art’s 100th anniversary, we created 10 days of unique experiences that explored Asia’s role in the global arts community and the influences of the Asian Diaspora.

A Container Portal was activated outside for a broad range of public-facing conversations and an Inflatable Portal was deployed inside the museum for more curated and longer-form programming with museum donors and special guests.

As a wrap up to the celebrations, we also deployed virtual programming on themes like Lunar New Year, Art Expansion in the Meiji Period, and Dhavali.

CREATING THE WORLD’S LARGEST CONVERSATION ON CLIMATE

  • With UN.Live and the IKEA Foundation, we placed 25 Portals across six continents, connecting communities on the front lines of climate change together in life-size conversation.

Teachers in Mali spoke with students in Jakarta. Innovators in Nairobi learned regenerative practices from indigenous tribal leaders in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest. Over 15,000 participants joined in these conversations, and exchanged strategies, cultural wisdom, and hope.

This worldwide dialogue culminated with Portal at COP27. Connected to 10 other Portals, traditionally under-heard voices had the chance to share their realities directly into the halls of decision-making.

That link between people was one of the best things in this COP for me.” - Jesper Brodin, CEO of IKEA

With partners like MIT Media Lab and Cortico, insights from the conversations became a living archive of empathy in action, proof that when people meet eye to eye, understanding can shape global change.

Through this 16 month partnership we hosted over 3,000 conversations, millions of online engagements, and helped position UN.Live as a global leader in driving global change.
