Uplifting disadvantaged communities at Google Cloud Next
In the spirit of Google’s commitment of investing in underserved communities, Google wanted to create opportunities for the developers to mentor youth interested in technology and provide opportunities for these communities to grow in the field of cloud development.
We brought Portals to Google’s Cloud Next conference with over 20,000 attendees. Developers at the conference connected to Mexico, Rwanda, Mali and Uganda. We curated 10 young tech leaders from these 4 countries to share their projects and get mentorship directly from Google developers.
Google was able to find a unique way to benefit underserved communities around the world while providing a unique interactive space at their 3-day conference. Of the 10 youths that participated, 6 went on to apply to Google programs in their region. One was even accepted into a prestigious CS Research Mentorship Program in Mexico City.
